1956 - 58
Started out as a photographer with a local studio in Crieff, Perthshire dealing with news events and work for NSEB on hydro schemes, promotional material and sports photography.1958 - 1960 Freelanced for the Daily Express in Scotland covering news, features and sports events.
1960 - 1965 Joined Daily Mail as staff photographer.
1965 - 1970 Freelanced for English daily and Sunday papers in Scotland covering all major news events and produced book on Upper Clyde Shipbuilders workers sit-in.
1970 -1975 Ran advertising and PR agency servicing clients like Wm Grant & Sons, SSEB, British Steel, Dexter Corporation of Mass, USA, Twinings Tea, Nike and Scottish Football Association.
1975 - 1980 Left Scotland to freelance in UK, Italy, USA and Scandinavia working for publications like Oggi, Familia Christiana, Life, Newsweek, Bilt am Sontagg, Paris Match, Vogue, Algameen HansellBlad, Observer, Sunday Times, Guardian, Telegraph and was awarded World Press Pictures medal at the Hague.
1980 -1981 Became Picture Editor and hired staff for news publication The Independent at it's launch.
1981 -1982 Left to help start new Scottish Sunday paper "Scotland on Sunday" hiring staff and being instrumental in deciding policy of the editorial team. Won the prestigious Ilford Sports Photography Award for the whole of the UK , a distinction never since equalled.
1982 -1986 Returned to London to work as retained photographer on You Magazine and to freelance for the Sunday Times Magazine, Observer Magazine, Telegraph Colour Magazine and Times Weekend Supplement.
1986 to present continuing to produce images of Gallery display quality, was accepted for the Royal Photographic Society, obtained MA in photography and works on an ad-hoc basis as photography tutor at various Educational Institutions in Scotland, the North East, the East Midlands, London and in Italy.
Scottish Higher Education Certificate in, English, History and Art at Morgan Academy, Dundee.
MA in Photography at University of Sunderland.
Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society.
City and Guilds certificate PTLLS at Northampton College.
